About this event
BICITOUR WORLD CAR-FREE DAY AND WORLD TOURISM DAY 🚴 — a guided, free ride through Antigua. Welcome to every family and friend joining us to mark World Car-Free Day and World Tourism Day. The bicycle solves mobility and grows community tourism. Both effects create economic, human, and environmental development. That is why we need to invest in building the right infrastructure. BICIRUTA 502 is a national project that connects Guatemala through a new kind of mobility: light infrastructure dedicated to the bicycle. BICIRUTA 502 lets us travel another way, at another pace, waking up the senses — weather, smells, and the colors of the landscape. It brings us closer to communities and their people, and to the unique experiences each place offers. WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW: 👉 THIS IS A BIKE RIDE — it is free, and capacity is limited. Date: Sunday, September 27. Time: 7:30 AM. Meeting point: Parque Central, Antigua Guatemala. Distance: ~16 km · beginner level. Ride info: completely free. Mechanical support, paramedics, guides, and BiciRuta 502 ambassadors will be with us, along with PMT and the fire department. Parking: if you are coming from outside Sacatepéquez, there will be several parking spots on streets near the event hub. Please carpool and arrive in as few cars as possible. Children over 12 who already ride with experience are welcome, and must be accompanied by a parent. Estimated ride time: 2.5 to 3 hours max. What to bring: • Helmet (required) • A mountain bike in good condition (part of the route is gravel/dirt) • Spare tubes • Water bottle or hydration pack • Sunscreen • A jacket or rain layer • Small cash to support the local economy along the route This is a recreational ride — not a trek and not a race. We will keep a moderate pace because children, young riders, and beginners will be with us. The spirit of the ride is to enjoy the points of interest along the way. IMPORTANT: We will record video, drone, and photos at several points along the route and at the hub, to promote BiciTurismo in the area. There will also be cultural and musical activities. All activities are expected to wrap up around 3:00 PM. The organizing committee may change the route for traffic or rider-safety reasons. Registration stays open until Saturday, September 26 at 6:00 PM, or until capacity is full. Organized by BiciRuta 502, BAC, Muni Antigua, and Nueva Narrativa, with sponsorship from BAC.
